Supporter Corner
by Jason Strecker
This past Thanksgiving Day, Arundel House of Hope (AHOH) staff partnered with the Together support group and Solley United Methodist Church volunteers to open doors to guests in need of a meal. This was the third Thanksgiving held at an AHOH Day Center and also the first at AHOH’s new Furnace Branch location. Thanksgiving is a day when families get together and for many, the AHOH staff, Solley Church and Together volunteers comprise some of our most beloved family members.
With thinking of how special a day this was for us, I remember that the history of this Thanksgiving meal all started with Father Ed and Amma Trish of Together. In 2008, Father Ed and Amma Trish founded the Emmaus Center Church and homeless resource center in Glen Burnie. In 2009, the Emmaus Center hosted its first annual Thanksgiving dinner at St. Christopher’s Church in Linthicum. This event was documented in the Capital Gazette newspaper by my friend and journalist Allison Bourg. The history of that first Emmaus Center Thanksgiving continues today at AHOH as AHOH staff, Solley Church and Together volunteers all come together as one big family to serve AHOH guests.
Sincerely,
Jason
